Let the Peace of Christ Rule
Bible Study • October 6, 2026 • Colossians 3:15
“And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.”
Paul gives us three simple instructions in one verse: let Christ’s peace rule, remember that we are one Body, and live thankfully.
“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts.”
The word ‘rule’ carries the idea of something being the deciding influence. Think of an umpire making the call. Paul is essentially saying: when fear, anger, pride, resentment, and the peace of Christ are all competing for control of your response, let the peace of Christ make the decision.
That does not mean Christians will never experience anxiety, anger, grief, or conflict. It means those things do not have to become our master. Christ does. Before reacting, we can ask: Does what I am about to say reflect the peace and character of Jesus?
“To which indeed you were called in one body.”
Paul immediately connects personal peace with Christian unity. That is important. The peace of Christ is not only supposed to change what happens inside us. It should change how we treat each other. Christians may come from different churches, cultures, traditions, and backgrounds, but Paul reminds us that we belong to one Body.
Unity does not mean everyone has to agree about everything. It means our disagreements should never become more important than the Christ who unites us.
“And be thankful.”
Why? Because gratitude changes our perspective. A heart constantly focused on what is missing becomes restless. A heart that remembers what God has already done begins to recognize grace everywhere. Thankfulness and peace often grow together.
THE LESSON IN ONE SENTENCE
Let the peace of Jesus determine how you think, speak, respond, and treat other members of His Body — and walk through life remembering what you have to be thankful for.
A simple question to carry today: Before I react, what would it look like to let the peace of Christ rule here?
ONE Church in Christ Jesus
One Christ. One Body. One Mission.
